Professor Ian Collins leads a medicinal chemistry team in the Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics Unit at The Institute of Cancer Research, London. The team discovers and optimizes small molecules, which are used as tools to understand cancer biology and can be developed to make new anti-cancer drugs. The team’s achievements include the discovery of HSP90, AKT and CHK1 inhibitors leading to clinical candidates. Before joining The Institute of Cancer Research in 2003, he was a drug discovery chemist in the Neuroscience Research Centre of Merck Sharp & Dohme, UK, researching new molecules to treat psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.
